Yesterday, the 8:00 pm “Ai Ru Chao Shui” (Love Like a Tide) concert at the Luoyang Athletic Stadium featuring Jeff Chang and Fish Leong didn’t start until 8:30. Additionally, unknown singers’ performances caused the already waiting people to become even more impatient. At around 9:00 pm, Fish Leong made an appearance and performed 3 songs. The performers following her caused the audience to lose their patience and throw trash unto the stage. At around 10:00 pm, Jeff Chang appeared hurriedly on stage and was only able to say “Hello everyone” before being forced to leave. In response, the Luoyang police department said they will be responsible towards the fans and audience and investigate the sponsor’s responsibilities.

Weibo Response

@老马马雪松: “Love Like a Tide concert became “Curse Like a Tide.” Jeff Chang and Fish Leong’s “Love Like a Tide” Luoyang concert stopped hallway. The reason is because the sponsor played a tidal wave of ads, Fish Leong only sang 3 songs before leaving, and Jeff Chang barely made an appearance. Halfway through, the angry audience rushed on stage and demanded a refund, causing chaos at the scene.

After a Long Wait, Fish Leong Finally Appears

Last night at around 8:00 pm, the athletic stadium at Luoyuang was filled with people. Everyone were passionately discussing the concert that was about to star. According to the sponsor’s ads, the concert would begin at exactly 8:00 pm starring Jeff Chang and Fish Leong.

However, at 8:30 pm, fans still had not seen their idols. The performances on stage were by unknown singers, with commercial like skits inserted in between.

The first performer ended at around 8:45. Just as the audience were expecting their idol to show, two more unknown singers came on stage and performed. At this time, the fans became impatient, with lots of people calling their idols’ names and asking for an explanation from the sponsor. At the same time, some fans threw trash unto the stage, causing the scene to become chaotic.

At around 9:00 pm, Fish Leong’s appearance excited the fans, causing the scene to return to normal. After singing three songs, Fish Leong left the stage.

After Fish left the stage, everyone was waiting for the other main act of the night Jeff Chang. Unfortunately, another unknown singer came on stage to perform and commercial skits were also inserted into the performance.

At around 9:30 pm, with Jeff Chang still absent, fans started chanting his name and someone called for a refund.
The Situation Spins Out of Control, Fans Scare Away Jeff Chang.
From 9:30 pm, the fans continued to throw trash unto the stage and broke through the barrier, jumping onto the stage, asking the sponsors for an explanation. However, besides a few security personnel and the police trying to calm everyone down, there were no representatives from the sponsor coming forward to explain the situation.

In the process of calming the fans, voices from backstage were heard saying they were contacting Jeff Chang’s staff and that he will hurry to the stage and the concert will continue.

A fan at the scene said they came because of Jeff Chang and Fish Leong. The sponsors said that the concert was just for the two of them and would start at 8:00 pm. Contacting Jeff Chang’s staff at 9:30 pm, wasn’t that lying?

At around 10:00 pm, the stage was littered with soda bottles and glow sticks. The audience continued to jump on stage demanding an explanation.

At 10:05, the police and security convinced those on stage to leave and the police cleaned up the trash. The MC then stepped on saying that Jeff Chang was backstage and please keep calm to welcome the idol. At the same time, Jeff Chang was also backstage calming the audience.

After a few minutes, Jeff Chang was escorted by around 10 people to the center of the stage. However, he only said “Hello everyone” before trash and chairs were thrown onto the stage. Under the circumstances, Jeff Chang hurriedly left the stage.

The Concert Changed Taste, Fans Say They’re “Very Hurt”

The ending of the concert halfway left many fans lost and unwilling to leave. Reporters searching online found that netizens on Weibo had already assigned primary responsibility: The sponsors false advertising. The advertising as “Love Like a Tide”–Jeff Chang, Fish Leong Luoyang Concert was in fact an ordinary commercial performance.

Towards the idol’s quick disappearance, a 20 something female fan was sobbing when she walked out of the stadium. When the reporter asked her if she was crying because she did not get to see Jeff Chang’s performance, she screamed, “Liars! They’re all liars! 1169 RMB! My entire month’s salary is gone.”

A staff member taking care of the audio system told reporters that he was part of the local Luoyang audio company. To his understanding, the sponsors had planned on Fish Leong and Jeff Chang each singing four songs.

The Police Promises Refunds and Investigation into Legal Responsibilities

In response to this situation, a representative of Jeff Chang’s company said, “We received a notice saying it was just an ordinary commercial performance, not a solo Jeff Chang concert.”

Last night at around 10:30 pm, Luoyang police department promised the audience that a refund will be held on the 6th at 3:00 pm in the athletic stadium and that all the tickets will be refunded in 3 days. Additionally, according to the current evidence and circumstances, it has been confirmed that the sponsors did upload misleading ads. The next step will be for the police to investigate legal responsibility.

According to an insider, the sponsor for the concert was a entertainment company based in Luoyang. At 11:00 pm, a worker of the company was at the police station being questioned. He said the situation had a lot to do with Jeff Chang arriving late.

At 11:30 pm, the audience dissipated under the persuasion of the police. A few fans from Hebei, Beijing, and far away areas were still unwilling to leave.

“The police promised refunds tomorrow at 3 in the afternoon, but my plane ticket is at 3 in the afternoon. I can’t miss my plane just to get the refund,” a Beijing fan stated.
