Every week, the 24-7KPOP Team will each pick their favorite jam/MV of the week and share with you why they love their choice so much.
It’s a 3-way tie: FT Island’s I Wish, Orange Caramel’s Lipstick, and BTOB’s WOW. All three of these have been playing on repeat for me this whole week. I know all the words of FT Island’s album of the same title and Orange Caramel and BTOB have climbed my “favorite KPOP groups” category. WOW is so funky and makes me want to dance the second it starts playing. Lipstick is a combination of cute and catchy that I think is very rare in KPOP right now. And there’s something super sexy, super rock-y about I Wish. Anything with Hongki’s voice and a Spanish guitar is a win in my book.
My pick for this week is going to be Jolin Tsai’s The Great Artist. One, it was probably one of the coolest MVs I’ve ever seen. There were robots conjured up by some advanced magic/technology kissing in midair. And the last scene is just…completely unexpected and totally fantastic. The theme of the song is also really good. Jolin sings about not being kind for the sake of being kind and, hey, maybe you really didn’t love that bad boy as much as you thought. Plus, Jolin does a fantastic job with the dance (Apparently, when she first debuted, she didn’t know how to dance at all.) and the vocals of the song. I highly recommend everyone go take a look and listen.
I am currently watching Faith and have fallen in love with the OST Carry On by Ali. Her voice is so beautiful. The song fits the drama so well and you can feel the love behind the music. When I can’t wait for the next week of episodes, I play this song on repeat to help relieve my impatience.
Beatz by FAME-J – Part 3 collaborated with some of the best known Korean rappers got together and just killed the whole track. San.E, Urban Zakappa’s Cho Hyuna Block B’s Zico, Okasian, and New Champ. Pride is just incredible and has some wicked sick beats to it. I’m so glad to hear Zico bust out his rap skills again and I’m a huge fan of San. E so hearing those two alongside each other was amazing. I’m such a big fan of Korean Hip Hop and I do recommend this for heavy hitters into rap like myself.
So, my music pick of the week is H-Eugene’s Party Animal. I can’t really give a good reason why I fell in love with this song so quickly, I just did. The very beginning sounded like one of those really bad mix tapes my dad is always playing but the rest of the song turned out pretty well. Honestly, I didn’t even know who H-Eugene was until I heard Party Animal but you can bet your bottom dollar that the next time you see me I’ll be jamming out to every song he’s ever made.
Luna from f(x) and Sunny fron SNSD’s It’s Me is my pick of the week. I was a bit unsure if I would enjoy the latest drama version of Japanese manga Hana Kimi, especially after the really good Taiwanese version BUT I am really enjoying it. This track really fits in well with the sweet, peppy, and cute vibe of it’s drama. Sunny and Luna’s voices blend well together too. I also admit that Sunny is my bias from SNSD, so I am always looking for anything where she gets the spotlight shone on her away from the fabulous Korean nine.
Since XIS’s Honey, I Hate You came out I can’t stop listening to it. Even though they say “honey” more then 160 times, I still find myself doing the pelvic trust and singing along. Thank you TPOP for providing me a new awesome upbeat dance song. It reminds me of a break up song where you just want to rub into your ex’s face that you can’t stand them. Total awesomeness!
My pick of the week is J-Min’s Stand Up. Its from To The Beautiful You ‘s OST. I love the rocker vibe of the song and how it goes so well with the drama. J- Min has an amazing voice and I find myself constantly listening to it over and over again and replaying parts of TTBY in my head. This song will definitely put you in a “I’m ready to take on the world” type of attitude. Stand up is a song you MUST listen to.
My pick of the week is 2NE1′s I Love You, this video has everything. The girls are back with brand new looks from a more mature looking Minzy to Dara’s noticeably different hairstyle but let’s be honest they’re always making her hair weird anyways. CL is looking amazing from her 50′s throwback hair to her skintight black catsuit (she’s seriously had me rethinking my bias). I liked that this was the first song where they let Dara do a little rapping and also the chorus is just infectious. I challenge anyone to not listen to this song once and not have it stuck in your head the rest of the day.
