Pan Chen’s First Solo Live Show: Interview + MV

The 2009 Super Girl has come to have her own stage!

Recently, singer Pan Chen held her first LIVE SHOW since debut in Tian Jin. After the performance, she accepted questions from reporters. In discussing her first solo album, Pan Chen stated that she included a lot of her thoughts and ideas. For example, the lyrics for the single Love Me More is based off a relationship in her past. The Pan Chen who values relationships very much said after experiencing this heartbreaking love, she will not do such stupid things again and will learn to take care and cherish herself.

Reporter: How was performing in Tian Jin?

Pan Chen: It felt nice. This counts as my solo live performance. But, I don’t know if I’m being greedy, I feel like the stage wasn’t big enough. I want a better, more professional, and bigger stage. Of course, this performance was also very satisfying. Next, I will anticipate my 9/21 stage in Beijing.

Reporter: Some newspaper has reported that you pushed back your album release because Yang Mi stole your schedule. Are there problems between you two?

Pan Chen: She didn’t steal it. We’re in the same company so the schedule is about the same. On my side, because of a preparedness problem, so it was pushed back, making people say she stole it from me. I don’t want to explain too much. She’s obviously more popular than me. The thing I can do is sing my songs.

Reporter: According to reports, the song Love Me More is your own experience from last year. Is it the journey that your relationship took? From death to rebirth?

Pan Chen: Love Me More is to remind myself. I sang it for myself and also for the girls and boys that’s made the same stupid mistake that I did. That is, if you don’t have any way to be yourself, if you change for what you think is the love you want, or make compromises, these methods don’t work and is actually laughable.

Reporter: In the album, there’s a song called Because of Love that you sing with Jane Zhang. Talk about your collaboration. Is this the first time the two of you have worked together?

Pan Chen: If you’re talking about MV, then yes. If you’re talking about a KTV video, then no. (Laugh) At the beginning, I didn’t think Jane would sing with me. It’s after I picked the demo and gave it to her to listen to, it was in English then. When she heard it, she said this song is suited to be turned into a duet. The result after the recording was different from what I imagined because Jane’s dolphin voice is very ethereal, her tone is more sensitive and gentle, whereas my voice and tone are more androgynous and masculine. Our match was very interesting.

Reporter: You became an artist through a talent show. What’s your plan for the future?

Pan Chen: Even though I debuted through a talent show, I hope that I can become a strong singer, and even try composing. I like to compose to record good melodies. I remember I have a song that I wrote on the play. I didn’t have any set chord directions, I just took out my iPhone and hummed what was in my head. When I got to my destination, I took it out again. I think composing is a very casual affair. The more you do your thing, the more it’ll attract other people. I think if you’re too careful, to fake, it won’t turn out well.
