Oh my, this is very scary.
It was just reported that Malaysia Airlines Plane AC360 was on its’ way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it mysteriously went missing without a trace. At the moment, nobody knows what happened, but 239 people are feared as dead. The airline was carrying 227 passengers, two of them infants, and 12 crew members. The passengers were of 14 nationalities: 152 plus one infant from China, 38 from Malaysia, 12 from Indonesia, 7 from Australia, 3 from France, 3 plus 1 infant from the United States, 2 each from New Zealand, Ukraine and Canada, and 1 each from Russia, Italy, Taiwan, Netherlands and Austria.
At the moment we have no idea where this aircraft is right now. Subang Air Traffic Control lost contact with Flight MH370 at about 2:40 a.m. local time (1:40 p.m. ET Friday). We tried to call this aircraft through various means.
said Malaysia Airlines Vice President of Operations Control Fuad Sharuji. The airlines said that the Boeing 777-200 departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12:41 AM and was expected to reach Beijing at 6:30 AM. The trip was a 2,300-mile (3,700 kilometer) trip, however, it was lost from radar in airspace controlled by Vietnam. Air traffic control received a signal from the plane about one minute before entering the Vietnamese air space when suddenly air traffic control lost all contact, including a radar signal. The last signal received was when the aircraft prepared to transfer to the airspace above Ca Mau province.
The flight was piloted by Captain Zaharie Ahman Shah, 53, of Malaysia who has 18,365 flying hours and joined the airlines in 1981. The first officer is Fariq Ab.Hamid, 27, of Malaysia. who joined the airline in 2007 and has 2,763 total flight hours.
It was said that the missing plane would have mostly likely run out of fuel because at the time of its disappearance it was carrying about 7.5 hours of fuel. However, efforts to contact the plane were fruitless.
Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft.
China’s embassy in Malaysia has also formed an emergency team headed by the Chinese ambassador to handle the situation.
CEO Ahmad Juahari Yahya said
We deeply regret that we have lost all contacts.
Currently, the airlines’ representatives are contacting the relatives of those aboard.
Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilize its full support.
It was also tweeted by Boeing saying
We’re closely monitoring reports on Malaysia flight MH370. Our thoughts are with everyone on board.
Retired American Airlines Captain Jim Tilmon told CNN
It doesn’t sound very good. I’ve been trying to come up with every scenario that I could just to explain this away, but I haven’t been very successful.
The plane’s disappearance is very strange as the entire route of the plane was over land, so there would have been antennae, radar and radios to contact the plane.
Tilmon also mentioned that the plane had a safe record and was
about as sophisticated as any commercial airplane could possibly be.
During the search, the Xinhua News Agency cited a local Vietnamese media report saying that a Vietnamese search and rescue official reported that signals, possibly emergency transponder beacons, were detected from the plane from about 220 kilometers (120 miles) southwest of Vietnam’s southernmost coastal province of Ca Mau
For those who were awaiting the incoming flight and those who were to arrive, they were told that the plane was delayed and that if they wished to understand relevant information, then they should head to the Beijing Lido Hotel.
Malaysia Airlines operates in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and on the route between Europe and Australasia. The airline dates back to 1937 when it first operated as a passenger and cargo flight in Malaysia. In April 1942, it became incorporated as Malaysia Airways Limited, but later changed to Malaysia Airlines. Records show that the Boeing 777 has been involved in only two other major accidents and three hijackings.
One of the most notable incidents was when Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200 crashed as it landed in San Francisco, killing three passengers and seriously injuring 48 others out of the 291 passengers.
If the public wishes to know more information, they can call +603 7884 1234. According to the airlines’ website, its headquarters and registered office is located at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Malaysia, and its main airline hub is at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Hopefully, more information on the airlines is updated soon, and we hope that all the passengers of the plane are safe. Please pray for those who were aboard the flight.
At 2:13 PM, MH370 was reported to have been removed from the arrivals board at the Beijing. airport. Among the passengers, 24 were Chinese artists who were returning from an art exhibition in Malaysia.
At 12:37, Tuoi Tre, reported that the Vietnamese Navy has confirmed the plane crashed into the ocean. The Vietnam Emergency Rescue Center said that they found the signal of the missing plane at 9.50 AM, 120 miles southwest of Ca Mau cape, the Southern-most point of Vietnam. According to Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat, Commander of the Region 5, military radar recorded that the plane crashed into the sea 153 miles south of Phu Quoc island. The island lies to the southwest of southern Vietnam.
At the moment there are no Vietnamese navy boats in that area so we have to ask boats from Phu Quoc island to be prepared for rescue.
The signal found is believed to be the ELT (Emergency Locator Transmittor), which can be activated manually by the flight crew or automatically upon impact.
